We all know by now, that the GOAT is back. In a shocking move, Tom Brady will be coming out of a retirement that was shorter than the 2022 MLB lockout.
Now with the Bucs being said by many as Super Bowl champs, you have to say, “ Are they really?”
Well, the team re-signed corner Carlton Davis to a 3 year, 45 million dollar contract, which gives the Bucs his rights until the 2025 season. Davis is a key member of the Bucs secondary, and will be a primary defender for years to come.
The Buccaneers lost safety Jordan Whitehead to the New York Jets, which means they lost a key member in their secondary.
But the Bucs signed veteran safety Logan Ryan, giving them a short-term safety to replace Whitehead. The team signed Ryan for 1 year, and around the veteran minimum, which is the minimum amount of money that a veteran gets per year.
Center Ryan Jensen resigned, along with a stunning trade where former Tom Brady teammate Shaq Mason got traded to the Bucs. He will gladly replace retired guard Ali Marpet. The team also resigned guard Aaron Stinnie, giving the offensive line a revamp for this year.
The team used their one and only franchise tag of the offseason on stellar WR Chris Godwin, who despite putting up over 1,100 receiving yards in 2021, had a season-ending Torn ACL. But then a couple weeks later, the team gave him a 3 year deal, securing their top receiver.
In spite of the team releasing Antonio Brown, they has prepared for losing Godwin and other targets. They traded for Atlanta Falcons receiver Russell Gage Jr., who caught 66/94 balls for 770 yards and 4 Tds. They also resigned WR Breshad Perriman, who caught the game-winning touchdown against the Bills.
There have been questions about where Rob Gronkowski will go this year, and it looked like he would leave for a different team. But with Brady back on the Bucs, it looks like he will stay.
The team resigned running backs Leonard Fournette and Giovanni Bernard, two of Tom Brady's favorite targets in the backfield.
The Bucs will start the 2022 NFL Draft with the No. 60 pick. According to Scott Smith's Mock Draft 7.0, he says the Bucs will use their first pick on defensive back Tariq Woolen of UTSA. Youtube Channel TPS recently had a video on the top 5 steals and top 5 busts in this year's draft, and they said that "he has the size to be a successful corner".
This team has already made lots of changes in their roster, and is looking like a deep playoff team who just might make the Super Bowl with their free agent signings and trades, along with suspected draft picks.
